Goodbye 2016!

"Their joys, their woes, their highs, their lows, their ups, and then their downs. Their days so filled with God's dear Son, and lessons yet to learn."

-lyrics taken from the Sugar Creek Gang radio theme song

Changes come with every year. Good changes, bad changes (or what we might consider bad).

But in the scheme of it all, we know we have a God who never changes, and holds us in His hands.

I'm sure most of us are familiar with Psalm 107:1-

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
    His love endures forever.

But have you ever read the rest of the Psalm? This middle section really stood out to me while reading it one day, verses 23-32.

Some went out on the sea in ships;    they were merchants on the mighty waters.
They saw the works of the Lord,    His wonderful deeds in the deep.
For He spoke and stirred up a tempest    that lifted high the waves.
They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril their courage melted away.They reeled and staggered like drunkards;    they were at their wits’ end.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,a    and He brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper;    the waves of the sea were hushed.

They were glad when it grew calm,
    and He guided them to their desired haven.Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love    and his wonderful deeds for mankind.Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people    and praise him in the council of the elders.

God's wonderful deeds were not just shown in bringing the ships to safety, but also in the storm. In both sending the waves crashing and stilling them, God showed His love and mercy.

The psalm ends with this:

Let the one who is wise heed these things
    and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord

May we look to God in this coming new year, and praise Him for the joys, the woes, the highs, the lows, the ups and the downs, knowing that God is with us each step of the way, and teaching us lessons that will grow us to be more like His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

With love,

The Clever Bunnies
