Beautiful People || July edition || Bethany's Character

Who to do, who to do?

(I sound like an owl)

You're welcome
Rufus Ignatus would be fun...

Quintus, stop glaring at me.

Or Domnius, or Marcellus...

Yes, Quintus, it probably is rightfully your turn. You haven't had a good introduction yet, and you are my anti-hero of sorts.

You're surprised you aren't the hero? Look at the mess you've gotten yourself into and we're not even to the third act!

Are you sure you want to be this vulnerable in front of an audience of mainly females?

Ok, you asked for it.

Welcome Quintus, have a seat. This may take a while.

1) Do they want to get married and/or have children? Why or why not?

Quintus wasn't sure he'd ever get the opportunity to have a family of his own, but then Porcia came along, and her father was willing to take a chance on this up and coming centurion. He would love to raise children with the free life he never had growing up.

2) What is their weapon of choice? (It doesn’t necessarily have to be a physical weapon.)

He's very good with his hands, but likes keeping a good blade at the ready too.

3) What’s the nicest thing they’ve done for someone else, and why did they do it?

Hmmm, this is a hard one. What is the nicest thing you've done Quintus?

Yes, it is hard for me to think of something. "Nice" isn't a word very often connected with your actions.

No, I didn't forget about that, I was just trying to think of something less obvious.

I'm sorry, but you'll have to start doing nicer things!

Eh hem.... My apologies. The nicest thing Quintus has done is rescue Porcia from a very dangerous situation. His first motive was duty- her heard her screams, and was able to get there in time. But he stayed with her until she was safe, and calm, and she was enormously grateful. And he is very nice to Porcia in general, because he does care about her, but it's the first time he's had someone in his life like that.

4) Have they ever been physically violent with someone, and what instigated it?

Hehehe, well, yes, quite recently actually. There's a character going after Porcia, and other things, that Quintus has a few violent run ins with- one that I wrote recently. It was fun.

I know it wasn't fun for you, Quintus. Or maybe it was. You never liked Flavius.

Flavius's smirk was more then he could stand. The pig enjoyed this, did he? Was this some sort of payback for the night of the banquet? Quintus couldn't tolerate it any longer. He wrenched the senator's son up from his lounging position and flung him to the ground. The slave girl gave a scream, huddling back into the cushions. Senses dulled by wine and what have you, Flavius only lay there with a groan until Quintus dragged him up again by the throat.

"I should have killed you that night."
Flavius could only sputter and gasp, red face turning purple.
"You have no idea what it's like to work for anything, to pay for what little you have with your own sweat and blood."
He took a moment to savor Flavius's discomfort, then let him take a breath to respond.
       "Slave," Flavius spat.
Anything holding Quintus back now flew to the heavens, and he sent Flavius crashing against the wall. He would see this fool dead.

5) Are they a rule-follower or a rebel?

Quintus is strict in enforcing rules, but when it comes to following them himself, his own priorities come first.

6) Are they organized or messy?

   Organized.

7) What makes them feel loved, and who was the last person to make them feel that way?

Being supported in the things he does and the choices he has to make. Porcia tries very hard to show him that love and support, but if she knew all the things he was up to...

8) What do they eat for breakfast?

Bread. Yes, the diet of a Roman soldier isn't very exciting. Maybe once he has a wife to take care of him it will be a little more varied.

9) Have they ever lost someone close to them? What happened?

This is an interesting question for Quintus, because he has lost people in his life, even family members, but he never considered them close, because there was always the chance they would be separated and never see each other again. But now with his new life, complete with bride to be, he has much more to lose then he cares to think about. And I can't say any more then that.

10) What’s their treat of choice? (Or, if not food, how else do they reward themselves?)

Spending time with Porcia is his biggest treat.  His duties at the garrison don't allow much of that, but it's incentive to get his work done, so he can have a few evenings with her.

  1. Quintus is a very intriguing character. I like that he seems to be up to something, yet obviously cares for Porcia. I enjoyed your snippet, too!
