Jewelry Box

 By Becca

Once upon a time there was an ugly little jewelry box.

It had a crooked little mirror, a cracked lid, and a rather nasty colored interior.
But, I saw potential in it, and one redeeming quality; it was a music box as well.

I love music boxes! :)

The song it plays is "The Way Things Were" from a 1973 romantic drama starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. The movie looks kind of dumb, but the melody of the song is pretty.  :)

I bought it last spring, actually, and mentioned it in this post as "coming soon".

After I sanded it, filled in the crack, re-stained it, tore the yellowish green velvet out, and replaced the mirror; it sat, almost finished, in the basement for over a year.
After Beth and I came home from school, we started on projects again, and I resumed work on the jewelry box.

Here's the finished product!

I updated the look with a fresh white interior and a simple decoration on the lid.
Inside there is a little surprise!
Using the technique I found here, I transferred the text inside the front compartment. And the backwards text becomes readable in the mirror's reflection.

It's good to have the jewelry box finished after all this time, and I hope someone will enjoy it!

  1. That is so adorable! I love how you've re-done it. The way the text inside is readable in the mirror is MEGA COOL. :-)

I love the song 'The Way We Were'. It seems to be very popular for music boxes!

My great grandmother has one but the song is "Put on your Sunday Clothes" from Hello Dolly"
