The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Psalm 19:1
I'm sure you fellow writers know the joy of finding a song that seems to fit a character of your's perfectly.
You think of them the moment you hear the song, and maybe it even lends another depth and dimension of your character you hadn't thought of before, but it is still so completely who they are.
And maybe you've thought, "Why couldn't I have written that song?"
Or maybe it's just me. :)
Well, for Milo, my MC in Mithras and Myrrh, that song is "Stars" by Switchfoot.
Maybe I've been a problem
Maybe I'm the one to blame
But even when I turn it off
And blame myself the outcome feels the same
I've been thinking maybe I've been part of the cloudy
Maybe I'm the chance of rain
And maybe I'm overcast
And maybe all my luck's washed down the drain
I've been thinking about everyone
Everyone you look so lonely
But when I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I see someone else
When I look at the stars
The stars
I feel like myself
Stars looking at a planet
Watching entropy and pain
And maybe start to wonder how
The chaos in our lives could pass as sane
I've been thinking if the meaning of resistance
Of a hope beyond my own
And suddenly the infinite and penitent
Begin to look like home
I've been thinking about everyone
Everyone you look so empty
But when I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I see someone else
When I look at the stars
The stars
I feel like myself
Everyone, everyone who feels so lonely
Everyone, yeah everyone who feels so empty
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I feel like myself
When I look at the stars
The stars
I see someone else
Switchfoot has their own music video of this song, but I thought it would be fun to play myself. :)
Before the light of Christ entered Milo's life, his own hopelessness and the hopelessness of others weighed on him heavily. In his own way, he would try to help, and studying to became a physician was part of that. Somehow or another, blame seems to fall on him for most things in his life, but all the problems in the world can't rest on his shoulders, even though they seem to at times.
After he becomes a Christian, there are still many, many struggles for him to face, but he knows he's not alone. The God who made the stars, who fashioned the universe, and gave each person life is working everything out for his eternal good.
Thanks for reading another writing post! And thanks to all our readers who stick with us through our sporadic posting schedule. :)
