Why is Good Friday good?

  I like asking people to listen to this song, telling them it's from the perspective of a person from the bible, and then having them guess who it is. Not many do, but there are some good hints in the song.

I'll just tell you the answer though, its one of the thieves that was crucified with Jesus. 

But why is the song called "Revenge"?

And why do we call the day that our Savior was killed, good?

God created a perfect world for us to live, and from the beginning, we've been chosing our own way over His. 

We rebel, reject His design for us, seek after other things to fulfill our lives.

We turn our backs on our Creator, and what does He do to repay us?

What would a just judge do to lawbreakers? Give them the punishment they deserve.

"The wages of sin is death"

(Romans 6:23a)

And not just physical death, but spiritual death, separation from God.

That's what we deserve.

That's what we should receive as retribution.

But the "revenge" for our rebellion does not have to fall on us.

God is not only holy, and perfect, and just. He is loving, and merciful, even when we are far from deserving it.

He chose the only One who could stand in our place, a human, like us, yet sinless, and perfect. His Son, Jesus Christ. 

Jesus took our punishment. The wrath of God was poured out on Him, instead of us.

That dark day, when an innocent Man bore the sins of the world, is now a day that means hope and forgiveness. 

"So I stopped for a moment to look at the Son
Dying today
That's when the irony hit me
That this was REVENGE
That love had descended
And stolen our pain away"

As we go into this Easter weekend, lets take time to think about the wonderful, good gift our Savior provided for us. That the revenge we should have received fell on the shoulders of another, allowing us to join Him in Paradise for eternity.

I tried a new filming angle - which involved moving the sewing machine that doubles as my record player table.... :) 

With our immediate family changing this year, Christmas plans are going to need a little revamping.
But this year we're planning on having our Christmas with Shawn and Beth at New Years.

How Many Kings ( Clever Bunnies )

I got to visit Beth and Shawn over the weekend. 

 Beth and I played Christmas music at coffee house Saturday night. 

This was one of the songs we played.

It looks so much more homey now that Beth has moved in. 😊

This the first song since Easter that we've recorded together!!!!

( that's crazy ) 

In general, as you might have assumed, we can't do that as much as we used to. So there's been a lot more solos posted lately, but it's so nice to sing together again. 

Christmas time is busy, so, this is short. But at our home we've been blasting Christmas music and planing Christmas get-togethers and decorating and things. It's been fun!

Silly Love Songs

I haven't played my ukulele as much as I've liked lately, but I'm trying to get back to that. 

Here are a few songs I've been learning to play - they all happen to be love songs.
These are just for fun, and none of these are polished recordings. I have a knack of wanting record new songs I've just learned... should reconsider that. 😏

So Far, So Great!

This song is probably the kid's favorite at School's Out.

It was one of the songs I taught them on my first week, with motions too - and the next day two of the girls were trying to sing it and asked me to help them with the words. That was so neat!

I survived teen camp and learned a new song.

Rainy Day Play :)

Put this song together this morning - it's been raining here and it seemed to fit.
It's a little funny having more then one voice on the video, but I was having fun with adding harmony on Garageband and still wanted to keep the video simple.

I'm sure you fellow writers know the joy of finding a song that seems to fit a character of your's perfectly.

You think of them the moment you hear the song, and maybe it even lends another depth and dimension of your character you hadn't thought of before, but it is still so completely who they are.

And maybe you've thought, "Why couldn't I have written that song?"

Or maybe it's just me. :)

Sing We Now of Christmas

Christmas music just seems to be synonymous with this joy filled holiday, so no wonder there are so many songs, both secular and Christian. 

Over the past years, it's been kind of a tradition for Becca and me to join our friends Jon and Emma playing Christmas music at the nursing home in town, and maybe a few other places. It's always a lot of fun, but with this year being a little different, Becca and I had to go solo. :)

Twin Spin

We give you, for your listening (and viewing) enjoyment, two songs today!

The first, "His Eye is on the Sparrow", we are playing for special music for a church event tomorrow. As we were practicing it, and re-familiarizing with the tune, all we could find were videos of people singing it very slowly and dramatically. It's a joyful song, and that doesn't come through with a tempo that drrraaaagggs on fooorrreeevvver. 

So we went with a quick, upbeat tempo, praising God that since He's in control, and takes care of even the little brown sparrows, we can have joy and rest in Him.

And for another hit by the Clever Bunnies, we give you "I've Just Seen a Face" by the Beatles.

When we got done recording our hymn, we wanted to do a "fun" song, and this is one of my favorites  I know how to play without guitar chords. Becca also had fun playing with the filters on my laptop camera, so first we appear above in "plastic camera" and then "comic book"

Our mom introduced us to this song from a CD of scripture lullabies. Sometimes, it is so nice to listen to soft, relaxing music, and what could be better when the words are truths right from God's Word?

Philippians 4:6-7 is one of my most favorite couple of verese too.

In preparation for playing at some nursing homes this afternoon, Becca and I, along with our friends  Jon and Emma, have been busy practicing this week.

We filmed some of our favorites, so here they are! There are a few mistakes here and there, but we had a lot of fun with it!  :)

I'm So Happy! (Here's the Reason Why)

Becca and I are pretty happy to be back at school, but that title refers to the song we're going to share with you guys at the end.

Sorry we've been lapse in posting. Hopefully as we settle into our school schedule, we will get better at posting more regularly.

So, how have we been?

We've been good! One of the things we were most excited about coming back to school, was that we get to share a room this semester! Yippee!

Knowing You

Becca and I really miss when we don't have someone to do a third harmony, and in the past we've made plenty of recordings with multible voice tracks. But on the blog we've tried to do songs that we could sing with just the two of us, just like we do if we were singing live.

But sometimes, (like with this song), we really wanted that extra harmony, so you'll hear two of each of us, our own little choir.

While trying to figure out what to do in the intrumental verse, I thought of reading the verse the song is based on. Just like in For King and Country's music video of Proof of Your Love. So we borrowed their idea, and I think it turned out pretty cool. :)

Rainy Day Song Medley

Do certain things ever make you think of songs?

They sure do for Beth and me.

The idea for this rainy day medley began while we were back at school. It had been raining on and off for weeks and one particular Sunday morning it was pouring. 

After the morning church service, we scampered through the puddles and failed to dodge raindrops while heading to the dinning hall, where our Sunday school class was held. The Everly Brothers' song "Crying in the Rain." had been stuck in my head ever since the rain had began. I even doodled a raincloud on my bulitin and wrote the song lyrics in with the raindrops. :)  

While we waited for Sunday school to start, we began to talk. There are so many oldies songs about the rain, wouldn't it be fun to do a medley? Right there we started humming, and we tried to see if the Cascades' "Rhythm of the Rain." would fit with "Crying in the Rain." We didn't get too far before the Sunday school teacher came, but we saved the idea for when we had the time.

Turns out, the next time we came to it, was a rainy day back at home. Beth found the guitar chords to both songs, and they were in the same key. We slowed the tempo of "Crying in the Rain" so the two songs would flow together. Beth arranged the lyrics so each song would take a turn, and started the medley with the guitar riff from "Rhythm of the Rain." We sang it a few times, seeing how best to blend the two songs, and then I really wanted to try if we could sing a verse from each song at the same time. It took some trial and error, but then it worked!
