Retro Camper Renovation || Part 1

Are you ready for an adventure with Becca and me as we take on our biggest project yet?
Well, it's not that big...

14' 4" by 6'6" to be exact.

Original brochure for the camper.

When a dear friend of ours, Annie, said she was going to give us her camper as a graduation gift, we were super excited.

 Look how adorable it is!

Our minds buzzed with all the things we could do with it, the places we could go, and the adventures that await us!

While all those things are exciting, before any treks take place, there is a bit of elbow grease that needs to be put into this little darling.

First off, it needed a good washing. That was our project when we brought it home on Saturday. There was about 25+ years worth of lichen growing on it, but it shined up very nice.

This weekend we'll work on really cleaning out the inside, see what needs to be fixed, and take measurements for upholstering the cushions.

Would you like to take a peek inside?

All right then, allons-y!

Here we have a lovely example of the late 1960's color palette of Avocado green and orange. Looks like there's some lime green and brown thrown in there too. Groovy!  :)

We have a cozy little kitchen with all the essentials, and you only have to turn around to put supper on the table. What convenience!

Time for bed?

The sofa converts into a double bed,

and the dinette area turns into another bed.

There is a bunk above the sofa that can fold down, but it's a tight squeeze up there, so we're thinking it would be better used by a little person.

There's also lots of little cubbies to store things in, and a mirror for getting ready for the day!

As you could see in the first picture, the ceiling needs some help, and I'm sure there will be lots of other things to do to get it road ready.

Still...

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE MOST FUN EVER!

Thank you SO MUCH Annie!

Graduation Highlights

By Becca
It's been a little crazy these past two weeks, consisting of:

Taking the GED test ( I passed, Yay!)

Preparing for the graduation party

Getting the house ready for company

Writing my graduation speech

Then the festivities began, and as fun as the weekend was; it left us rather tired out.
With Memorial weekend, the greenhouse where I work was very busy,
and today is the first chance I've had to sit down and really focus on this post.

There are a few things that deserve their own post:

Beautiful Blog Award!

We've been awarded the Beautiful blog Award, twice in fact!

Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who awarded you.
2. Answer the ten questions he/she asked.
3. Nominate ten bloggers to receive the award. (we might have to flub a bit on this one)
4. Ask them ten questions.
5. Let them know they've been awarded.

Like our last tag, we'll do our color coded answers, Becca = blue and Bethany = purple.

Paige's questions:

1. How would you describe your personal style?
Oh dear...this is a hard one.  I love vintage style, especially from the 50's, but from a day to day basis I would say, vintage/practical/...there was going to be a third adjective here,
but I can't think of one. :)

Hmm.... Well, I'm with Beth with loving vintage styles,
but on a normal day it's mostly practical/whatever-is-in-my-dresser.

2. What was your first pet?
Well, our first family pet was an orange cat named Jack.
My personal first pet was a siberian dwarf hamster named Honey-bunch that I bought with money from my 9th birthday.

My first pet was one of Honey-bunch's babies,
(and no, we didn't breed hamsters; she came pregnant)
Her name was Chum-Chum.

3. What is your ancestry (e.g. German, Italian)?

This answer is for both of us.

Dutch, Irish, Scottish, English, French, and Iroquois Indian.
Pretty impressive, right?

4. Dill pickles or sweet pickles ;) ?
Dill, usually, unless it's our neighbor's refrigerator pickles!

Both favorites! :)
(kudos if you get the quote... what are kudos?)

5. What Bible character do you relate to the most (it can be character, life experiences, or anything like that)?
I have no idea...

We thought a long time on this one,
(we even went to wikipedia to see a list of all the women in the bible)
But I have no idea either... I'd like to be like Jemimah, but I doubt I'm the most beautiful in all the land :)

6. What is the first favorite scripture verse that comes to your mind?
1 Timothy 4:12
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, the He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

7. Do you have any food allergies?
Thankfully, no.

Ditto.

8. You would be really excited if you woke up tomorrow morning to the smell of ____ cooking.
Cinnamon rolls!

Bacon!
or sausage, sausage is good too...

9. What are you looking forward to this summer?
Our family vacation.

Yes! yes! yes! I agree wholeheartedly :)
That and working on our camper.

10. What is one thing you've learned from blogging?

Bethany and Becca's answer:
That there's a lot more stay-at-home daughters/Whovians out there then we thought!
Really, it's been so fun to find so many like minded young women, when sometimes it can feel like we're the only ones.

Jill's guestions

1. What is your favorite article of clothing you own?
A white button-up shirt with black pin stripes that I found recently at Good Will. The brand is Ruff Hewn, which I seem to be attracted to. The sleeves have just a bit of a gather at the cuff, and I love the cut of it.

I think my favorite article of clothing is.....
My beautiful rose colored Gunne Sax dress!
I have no idea where I could wear it, it has a very long skirt and long sleeves that button at the cuffs

2. Do you have any hidden talents?
I can do accents, but never on the spot. It has to be completely impromptu. :)

I can do a "Big Head Kid" impression :)
(He's funny in small doses, too much exposer and he becomes grating.
If you don't know who he is, look up "Blimey Cow")

3. Do you give yourself any clothes shopping "rules" that you must stick to?

We have modesty guidelines: skirts and dresses should reach the knee, necklines should be high enough so that you feel comfortable bending over without being able to look down your shirt. Clothes shouldn't be too clingy. And we try to buy things that would be practical, unless we decide it could go for a costume for something.

Bethany: "I still think we should have bought that long, shiny blue dress with bat wing sleeves and silver sequined cuffs. We could have made our own Star Trek or Doctor Who Alien costume with it."

Becca: "But we did buy that shiny silver shirt at the rummage sale,
we could use it for a Cyber-man costume."
:D

4. What colors do you see the most of when you open your closet?
Grey, blue, green, and purple.

Varying shades of blue, green, cream and pink.

5. Have you ever refashioned a piece of clothing? If so, what did you make?
I once made a bed sheet into a dress, and then into a skirt. I've done some other refashioning projects too, and they are really fun.

Just this morning Beth helped me refashion a dress into a skirt, it's my first one ever!  :)

6. If you had the chance to share just one Bible verse with someone, which would you choose?
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we are still sinners, Christ died for us.

That's a good one, can I do that one too?

7. Do you have any pets?
Currently, we have three Mini Rex rabbits, Steve, Simon, and Sarah Jane, and a Shih-Tzu, Mocha.
Oh yes, and Horatio, Archie, and Mr. Bush, our goldfish. They live in a little pond outside.

8. What is your favorite vintage/antique item you own?
My Jadeite glassware collection.

My lace crinoline.

9. Do you know more than one language (ASL, Braille, etc. count too.)
Well, we tried learning Spanish and Dutch once, and we know a little sign language.
10. Flats or heels?
I like wearing heels, but my dad gave me a rule that I can never wear a pair that makes me taller then him. :)

I like the look of heels :)

Okay, now it's our turn to ask the questions!

#1 If you could enter any book and be one of the characters,
what book would you chose and who would you be?

#2 What is your favorite recipe to make?

#3 "Would you like a jelly baby?"

#4 What would you do if you saw a "big red threatening button"?

#5 What's your favorite BBC period drama?

#6 How many states have you visited?

#7 What's your favorite handcraft? (Embroidery, crochet, drawing...)

#8 What's your favorite children's book?

#9 What's your favorite hairstyle?

#10 If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

We are not going to tag people (we don't know ten bloggers),
anyone is welcome to participate.
You could do your own post or just answer in the comments.

Things We Like About Mom...

About, oh, maybe 9 or 10 years ago Becca and I made a little box for a mother's day present.
We painted and decorated it, and on the top we wrote "Things we like about Mom" and filled it with scraps of paper listing all the things we liked about our mom.

We were little, so some of the things were pretty silly, but it's fun to look back on them, and it's what gave me the inspiration for this Mother's Day post.
We actually couldn't find the original ones, so we had to make a new list.

So without further ado...

Things We Like About Mom (revised)
(in no particular order)

#1 She is our teacher.

#2 She loves to learn

#3 She can be silly with us

#4 She's an encourager

#5 She's an example to us as a godly wife

#6 She's very good about serving others

#7 She's a good cook

#8 She watches Sherlock with us
(She doesn't quite get Doctor Who though...) :)

#9 She goes junkin' with us

#10 She taught us to be thrifty

#11 She's always up for an adventure

#12 She puts up with our random tv show/movie quotes

#13 She's our blog editor

#14 She's interested in herbs, and healing things naturally

#15 She loves and cares for us...

And we love her so much too!

The card Becca made for Mom this year.
Little Becca is on the left, and Bethany's on the right.

Liebster Award

Thank you so much to Paige @ Sunday Best and All the Rest for nominating Becca and I for the Liebster Award!

Liebster Award Rules:

Acknowledge the blog that nominated you.

Answer the 11 questions the nominating blogger created.

List 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers that deserve some recognition.

Write 11 questions for them to answer.

Notify them they've been nominated.

Since there are two of us answering the questions, we'll have Becca's answers be blue, and Bethany's shall be purple.

1) Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Hmmm…. I can be both when necessary.
I'd say morning person.

2) Do you prefer dogs, cats, both or neither?
Both favorites!
Cats!

3) Where did you get your name?
It was a birthday present from my Dad :)
Ditto!

4) Do you have an unusual talent?
I don't think so...
I am very good at opening jars with tight lids.
Just ask my mom or Becca; I have Vulcan strength. :)

5) Would you rather show up at an event over-dressed or under-dressed?
Over-dressed, though I've done both before :P
Overdressed.

6) If given a choice, would you rather perform singing, dancing, or playing an instrument?
Singing!
Playing an instrument.

7) What kind of job do you have (to me, this means anything from a career to getting paid to do chores around the house or babysit your siblings)?
I work part time at our local greenhouse.
I am a Librarian's Assistant, and I love it!

8) What was the song you last heard?
I'm listening to music right now!
The last song that played was "Mood Rings" by Reliant K, it's a cute song :)
Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms.
I was on my way home from work tonight and it was playing on the radio.

9)  Food you last ate?
Leftover beef and broccoli.
Spagetti and cheese. It's like macaroni and cheese, except we didn't have macaroni noodles. :)

10) Part of the Bible you last read?
Philippians
What a coincidence, me too!

11) Is there any quality you think the Lord is growing in you right now (e.g., patience, love, trust)?
I think the Lord has been teaching me perspective and priorities.
The things of earth will pass away,
but the things of God and human souls will last forever.
Keeping that always in mind changes the way my time and thoughts are spent.
Hmmm, I think the Lord has been growing me in the way I use my words.
What I say, and even how I say things needs to be kind and encouraging, and that isn't always the first thing I think about before I speak.

Ok, I don't know if we can come up with 11 other bloggers to nominate, but we'll do as many as we can.

3) Jack at However Improbable

Hmmm, I think anyone else we could do has already been nominated!

And our questions are

1) Do you prefer coffee, or tea?
2) What was your first pet?
3) If you could go back in time, what century would you most like to visit?

6) Would you rather live in a victorian mansion, or a log cabin?
7) How did you decide that you wanted to start a blog?

10) Do you think bow ties are cool?
11) What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?
